Orlando’s LYNX bus system covers an incredibly large geographic area, which you can see in the image above. The journey from Haines City (bottom slightly left of center) to Deltona (top slightly right of center) is about 70 miles. That’s like going from the Upper East Side in Manhattan all the way to New Haven.

I’ve been in touch with the folks at LYNX to get GTFS data (the stuff that makes Google Maps public transit routing work) and started playing with it a bit. I’ve also come across a lot of interesting things doing research for this project. One of my favorites is Mapnificent (http://mapnificent.net), which shows you how far you can get on public transportation given a starting destination and an amount of time (only works for certain cities, and not yet for Orlando… but check out Tampa or Miami).
